About
A job board for the streets you actually live on
Porch is the neighborhood job board from WorkConnect — a place to find short, local work without a résumé, a recruiter, or a background check.
Porch exists for the work that never makes it onto a job site: a dog that needs walking twice a day, a yard that got away from someone, a kid stuck on algebra, a couch that has to move on Saturday, a shop that needs an extra pair of hands for the weekend rush. Neighbors post these jobs in about a minute — what needs doing, when, where, and what they can pay. Anyone nearby can read the posting and say yes with a short note about themselves. The person who posted it sees who replied and picks the neighbor who fits, then the two of you sort out the details directly.
It is built for ordinary residents rather than career job hunters: students filling gaps between classes, parents who want work that fits around school pickup, retirees with a free morning and a set of skills, people between jobs who need something local and quick, and small businesses that need a reliable hand without a hiring process. The Neighbors page works the other way around — workers post what they are good at and when they are free, so someone with a broken fence can find a person who fixes fences before they even post the job.
Porch is built and maintained by a small independent team at WorkConnect, working with people who know their own blocks. It is not a staffing agency and it is not a marketplace that takes a percentage of your pay. There are no posting fees, no commission, and no paid ranking: the newest local job simply appears first. Listings and messages stay inside the neighborhood, and your contact details are only shared with the neighbors you choose to talk to.
The goal is simple: make it as easy to hire the person three doors down as it is to order something online. If something about the board is confusing, broken, or missing a category your block needs, we want to hear it.
Local by design
Every listing names a real neighborhood, so the work you find is a walk or a short drive away.
People, not algorithms
You reply with a short note. The person who posted the job reads it and chooses who fits.
No fees, ever
Porch does not take a cut of what you earn and does not charge to post. You agree on pay between you.
Built on reputation
Reviews work both ways — for the neighbor who hired and for the neighbor who showed up.
